Migrating Applications to SaaS in AWS: A Minimally Invasive Approach
On Friday 5th October, we hosted the latest in our Breakfast Briefing series in the wonderful Westin Hotel. We were delighted that so many people braved the rainy Friday morning to join us for an informative morning of engaging stories from our partner AWS, one of our most innovative customers Mobacar and our very own CTO Nigel Creighton.
After a delicious breakfast, everyone took their seat and our CEO Richard Nunan went through the agenda for the morning.
Next up to the podium was our friend Andy Powell, Partner Solution Architect EMEA at AWS. Andy discussed the total impact of a SaaS transformation on an organisation, starting with what motivates companies – “71% of customers noted that loosing traditional on-premise customers to SaaS was a key motivator for moving to AWS SaaS” He highlighted that ‘Top-down support’ was the most important thing in adopting a SaaS lifestyle.
Here are the key takeaways from Andy’s presentation:
Moving from an AWS viewpoint to a Customer Success Story, David Gregg, CTO at Mobacar took to the podium. He spoke about how Mobacar migrated their application to the AWS platform and how their SaaS based solution has benefited them in moving from a Startup to a global player in the Car Rental and travel business.
“Frictionless mobility for everyone” David outlined how their innovative retail intelligence platform on AWS is providing AI for Europcar, Travelport and Gulf Air!
Now for our favourite slide of the day – showing that Mobacar (Danny) being able to scale their solution on the AWS (Arnie!) platform enabled them to compete with bigger companies with deeper pockets!
Nigel reiterated what Andy had said earlier in the morning about how organisational buy-in and top-down support is so important as your company migrates to SaaS. He then went on to discuss the various different migration models and how they might look in your organisation.
We wrapped up with a Q&A session and were delighted that people stayed around afterwards to mingle and have some interesting and SaaS-y (sorry!) conversations.
Since the event, we have received some great feedback and are already looking forward to our next Breakfast Briefing.
“Excellent presentation. Great to see an innovative company like DNM partnering with the likes of AWS & Mobacar. Really strong event, very impressive.”
